Low Loss Transformers

Low-loss transformers are electrical transformers designed to minimize wasted energy during power conversion and transmission. They are commonly used in power distribution networks, industrial systems, renewable energy installations, and energy-efficient buildings.

The main goal is to reduce two major categories of transformer losses:

Core (no-load) losses

These happen whenever the transformer is energized, even if nothing is connected to it. They come mainly from:

  • hysteresis loss
  • eddy current loss

Low-loss transformers reduce these losses by using:

  • better magnetic core materials (such as amorphous metal or high-grade CRGO steel)
  • thinner laminated cores
  • improved winding design
  • larger copper conductors
  • optimized cooling and magnetic geometry
